- KYOTO — Two calves were born of cows fertilized with sperm that had been refrigerated for about 40 years at a Kyoto University ranch, renewing a world record, university officials said Friday. The sperm, kept at minus 196 C in a freezer since August 1964, was used to fertilize two cows last June, leading to the births of a 36.6-kilogram male calf on March 19 and a 28.8-kg female calf on April 3, they said.
